Malasombra

Malasombra is a retro-inspired action-adventure game developed by 4MHz
for the NES. Set in a dark fantasy world inspired by fairy tales and classic legends, players control Pirou, a young magician’s apprentice whose wedding is interrupted by the evil sorcerer Malasombra. After the kingdom is cursed and the princess Astrid is kidnapped, Pirou embarks on an epic journey filled with magic, exploration, puzzles, transformations, and challenging enemies.

Blending action-platforming, adventure, RPG, and 메트로이드vania-inspired progression, the game features magical transformations that grant new abilities, interconnected environments, NPC interactions, shops, hidden secrets, and a story-driven campaign designed for both modern players and retro enthusiasts. Developed over more than five years using a custom NES engine written in C and Assembly, Malasombra was released in both digital and physical cartridge editions.
